Grünmetropole - three countries, one destination

A connecting project!

The Grünmetropole (green metropolis) is located in the part of the Euroregion Maas-Rhine where production of hard coal was the centre over decades and dominated daily life. The heritage of this industry – dumps, shafts, buildings, miners' quarters – is still visible at many places in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. The structural change was successfully started.

The cross-border project of "Grünmetropole" aims at familiarising the people with the new image of your home as well as with today's functions of the industrial sites and green landscapes.

The green route is the green path through the green metropolis. This bike route connects many cities, natural spaces, recreation areas and national parks on approx. 370 km and invites the cyclists in special places with exciting views to take a break. The Metropolroute for motorists connects 70 attractions on 270 km and leads past various landscape forms through the metropolarea. Multilingual and homogeneous information points and a unified cross-border signs allow an easy travel and discovery.
